Thai foot massage is more than just a foot rub. It is a holistic healing art that can improve your physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Foot massage therapy has been practiced by the Ancient Egyptians more than 4000 years ago. At the same time, a similar healing method was applied in India and spread to China and other parts of Asia along with Buddhism.
It is thought that Thai foot massage originated in India and is based on the Ayurvedic principles of balancing the life force energy (Prana) that flows through the body along channels called Nadis similar to the Chinese concept of Chi and Meridians. In Thai Traditional Medicine, these channels are called Sen lines.
Each foot has 7,200 sensory nerves that connect to the internal organs and systems of the body. By applying gentle pressure and stimulation to specific points on the feet and zen lines, Thai foot massage can restore the natural flow of energy that may be disrupted by stress and environmental factors. It also involves massaging and stretching the lower legs, knees, and feet muscles using hands, fingers, knuckles and a traditional Thai massage stick.
The benefits of Thai foot massage are numerous and profound. It can help you achieve:
I'm always happy to help if you have other questions. Feel free to contact me.
You will remain fully clothed during your treatment. Please wear a garment that can be easily raised above the knees.
It is a good idea not to eat a heavy meal less than an hour before your treatment.
I genuinely don't mind if you have hairy legs or a fresh pedicure. However washing your feet on the day of the appointment is appreciated. Don’t worry if you’ve been out and about all day since then. Try and arrive 5 minutes before your appointment so you can use the toilet if you need to, drink some water and be relaxed and calm.
Thai foot massage is suitable for most people, but there are some exceptions. Before booking a session, please check if you have any of the conditions listed in contra-indications - If you have any of these conditions, please inform me and consult your doctor before receiving treatment.
The treatment takes around 1 hour. Please arrive 10 minutes early at your first appointment.
You may experience discomfort if your foot muscles are sore or stiff. If this occurs, notify your practitioner to reduce pressure and, in turn, strain. If you have an injury or an area of your body susceptible to pain, inform your practitioner before beginning the massage session.
To maximum benefit from your treatment please:
Sometimes people experience some soreness for 24 hours or so after a massage. If you do feel sore or think that you might, stretch gently in a hot shower or take a warm bath. And remember to tell me about your experience so it can be taken into consideration in your next session.
To avoid disappointment, please read the information below prior to booking an appointment. A medical contraindication means there is a reason not to treat unless permission has been gained. I am not trained to diagnose conditions, so if you have a problem, ensure to consult your doctor for advice.
Circumstances needing a GP letter before treatment can start:
- Cancer,
- Stitches, internal bleeding from accident or stomach ulcer etc,
- Diabetes (also see special allowances section below).
Special allowance can be made for conditions which require extra gentleness:
1) Diabetes - to avoid bruising (you must have something small to eat prior to the session and test your blood sugar levels afterwards because the massage simulates the effect of exercise.)
2) Epileptics must have taken their medication
3) Osteoporosis
4) Immobility - if you have been immobile we will work very gradually
5) Localised cuts - you will need to cover any small cuts with plaster before a treatment.
