The law relating to data protection is changing on 25th May 2018 when the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force.
YOUR PERSONAL DATA
We would like you to be informed about how we collect and handle your personal data. This includes your name, email address or social media identifiers, phone numbers. In other words, it covers any and all information about you that is capable of identifying you.
Under the GDPR we are ‘data controllers’ of your information. We are called ‘controllers’ because we make decisions about how your data is used – for example to prepare marketing materials – and we also ‘process’ your data when we carry out basic activities like storing, deleting and changing the information that we hold. We take our obligation to protect the information you give us very seriously, and we always take care when using and processing it.
COLLECTING AND USING YOUR DATA
- We no longer collect registration forms or health questionnaire. HOWEVER you must let your teacher know about any medical conditions affecting you such as diabetes, recent injuries, pregnancy... because while some of the practices might be beneficial some others might be injurious and should be modified or avoided. If you have any doubt about your medical condition or the suitability of yoga for you, please consult your doctor.
- Attendance registers contains your name – data collected in class - used for class management, and held for at least seven years for insurance purposes.
- We will ask for your mobile number if you would like to be added to our WhatsApp group. You are free to opt in or out of that group at any moment. It is mostly used to pass on message relating to the class or for students to let me know if they are running late or enable to make it.
- Enquiries from non-students – message, name and email address – received via our website or by email - held for up to a year, and used to answer query and follow up.
- Emails – sent from students and non-students. Important messages are saved in our email folder, otherwise emails retained for up to two years.
- Payment data, excluding card information which we do not receive at any time. Received via banking systems, and saved for at least seven years for accounting and tax obligations.
- Website cookies set automatically by our software. We do not knowingly access these or pass to third parties.
- Except where required by law, we do not share data with third parties or sell contact lists.
